Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • Cornmeal for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and yeast.
  2. Bring it all together: Gradually add warm water, stirring until the dough comes together.
  3. Knead the dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Shape the loaf: Shape the risen dough into a loaf and place on a baking sheet dusted with cornmeal.
  7. Second rise: Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Score & bake: Score the top of your loaf with a sharp knife and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool it down: Let it cool before slicing.

Notes

If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little flour as you knead. Use half all-purpose and half bread flour for added texture.
