Delight in the flaky, buttery goodness of homemade croissants that are perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. In a separate bowl, warm the milk slightly and add it to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes, then place it in a lightly greased bowl and cover it. Let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Create the Dough Base: Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Place the cold butter in the center, fold the dough over the butter, and roll it out again.
  4. Layer the Dough: Fold the dough into thirds and roll it out again. Repeat this process 3-4 times to create those lovely layers.
  5. Shape the Croissants: Roll out the final dough and cut it into triangles. Roll each triangle from the base to the tip to shape the croissants.
  6. Final Rise: Place the rolled croissants on a baking sheet, cover them lightly, and let them rise for about 1 hour until they puff up beautifully.
  7. Preheat and Prep for Baking: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush the croissants with egg wash for that perfect golden finish.
  8. Bake and Enjoy!: Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy your homemade croissants!

Notes

Store leftover croissants in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or freeze them for longer storage.
