A nostalgic banana pudding recipe with layers of creamy custard, ripe bananas, and crunchy vanilla wafers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup of cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 box of vanilla wafers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Creamy Base: In a saucepan, whisk together the milk, cream, sugar, cornstarch, and salt over medium heat until it begins to thicken.
  2. Temper the Eggs: In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs. Slowly add a bit of the hot mixture to the eggs to temper them, then return to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the Custard to a Bubble: Stir in the vanilla extract and cook until the mixture bubbles. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  4. Layer the Goodness: In a baking dish, layer wafers, banana slices, and pudding, repeating layers until all ingredients are used.
  5. Chill and Serve: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

Use ripe bananas for the best flavor and sweetness. Consider adding a sprinkle of crushed vanilla wafers on top before serving.
