Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef (thinly sliced, such as sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar in a bowl to create the marinade.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef into the marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat a grill or frying pan over medium-high heat and add sesame oil.
  4. Add the marinated beef in batches, cooking until browned, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  5. Garnish the cooked beef with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
  6. Serve the beef hot over cooked rice.

Notes

For optimal marination, slice the beef as thinly as possible. If short on time, a 15-minute soak in the marinade will still add flavor.
