A comforting classic breakfast dish featuring fluffy biscuits and savory sausage gravy that delight the senses.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Shape the dough and cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter.
  6. Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
  8. Make the gravy by stirring in the flour, adding milk gradually, and seasoning with salt and pepper.
  9. Serve the warm biscuits topped with sausage gravy.

Notes

Biscuits can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
