A modern twist on traditional cabbage rolls, these bowls combine ground beef, rice, and tomatoes for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Boil water in a large pot. Add the cabbage head and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes until the leaves soften.
  3. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in a skillet over medium heat until aromatic and translucent.
  4. Brown the ground beef (or turkey) in the skillet until fully cooked.
  5. Combine the cooked rice, canned diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in the skillet.
  6. Prepare the cabbage leaves by carefully peeling them off and spooning the beef and rice mixture into each leaf, rolling them tightly.
  7. Assemble the rolls seam side down in a baking dish, packing them tightly.
  8. Add tomato sauce evenly over the rolls.
  9. Bake covered with foil for 30-40 minutes.
  10. Cheese the rolls by adding shredded cheese on top and baking uncovered for an additional 5-10 minutes until melted.
