A delightful dish blending Southern comfort and Italian flair, featuring perfectly spiced steak tips served over creamy penne pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs sirloin steak tips (cut into 1.5-inch pieces)
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (divided)
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese (loosely packed, plus more for serving)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the penne pasta until al dente, reserving 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Prepare the steak tips: Pat steak tips dry and season generously with Cajun seasoning.
  3. Sear the steak: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, add steak tips, and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until medium-rare. Remove and tent with foil.
  4. Sauté the garlic: Reduce heat, add remaining olive oil and butter to the skillet, then sauté minced garlic for 1 minute.
  5. Create the roux: Whisk in flour and stir for about a minute.
  6. Prepare the creamy sauce: Gradually pour in milk and cream while whisking until the mixture comes to a gentle simmer and thickens slightly.
  7. Melt in the cheese: Remove from heat and fold in Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  8. Combine everything: Add cooked penne and steak tips back into the skillet and toss until coated.
  9. Garnish and serve: Serve topped with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For variations, try using chicken or shrimp instead of steak and adjust the heat of the Cajun seasoning to your preference.
