Delicious calzones stuffed with ooey-gooey cheese and your favorite fillings, wrapped in a golden, crispy crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni (optional)
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)
  • Italian seasoning (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and sugar. In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Combine and Knead: Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture; knead until smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Let It Rise: Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled.
  4. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  5. Roll Out the Dough: Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Fill and Fold: Cut the rolled dough into circles and fill one half with ricotta, mozzarella, pepperoni, and Italian seasoning.
  7. Seal the Calzones: Fold the other half of the circle over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
  8. Bake to Perfection: Place your calzones on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Serve and Enjoy: Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Ensure to keep the dough from being overfilled to prevent sogginess. Experiment with various fillings and add sautéed veggies for extra flavor.
