A beloved classic, Chicken Tikka Masala features tender chicken marinated in yogurt and spices, then simmered in a rich tomato cream sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken breast, cubed
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Add the cubed chicken and coat it well. Marinate for at least one hour or overnight.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger, and sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
  3. Cook the Marinated Chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the skillet, and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. Combine with Tomato Puree: Stir in the tomato puree and bring to a simmer.
  5. Add the Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and stir well. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  6. Serve and Garnish: Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.

Notes

Marinate the chicken overnight for best flavor. Adjust spice levels to taste preference.
