Delicious scones that combine the flavors of cinnamon buns without the lengthy preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for glaze
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk, vanilla, and optional pecans until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
  6. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the circle into wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  8. While the scones bake, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
  9. Once baked, drizzle the glaze over the warm scones and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure your butter is cold for the best flaky texture. Don’t overmix the dough.
