A comforting one-pot meal featuring chicken sausage, broccoli, and orzo in a creamy sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 12 ounces chicken sausage, sliced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup orzo
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Sauté the sausage: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken sausage slices and cook until nicely browned, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add aromatics: Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until fragrant and softened, about 2 minutes.
  3. Incorporate the orzo: Next, add the orzo to the pot, followed by the chicken broth and milk. Bring everything to a gentle simmer.
  4. Simmering away: Cover the pot and let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Introduce the broccoli and cheese: Uncover the pot and add the fresh broccoli florets and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until the cheese melts and the broccoli becomes tender, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Season and serve: Finally, season with salt and black pepper. Stir well to combine and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra creaminess, increase the milk or substitute half-and-half. This dish pairs well with a side salad or crusty bread.
