Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Beat in the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract for about 2 minutes until well combined.
  4. Add the boiling water carefully, mixing until well combined; the batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the greased pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them to cool completely on wire racks.
  7. Prepare the frosting by melting chocolate and mixing it with butter, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth.
  8. Frost the cooled cake layers generously with chocolate frosting and sprinkle chocolate chips on top before serving.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, consider adding a splash of coffee to the batter or infusing the frosting with peppermint extract.
