Cruffins are flaky, golden puff pastries shaped like muffins and filled with delightful treasures such as custard or fruit jam.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup puff pastry dough
  • Filling of choice (e.g., custard, fruit jam, chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients: mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a bowl.
  2. Incorporate wet ingredients: add warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry mix.
  3. Form the dough: stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead with love: transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  5. Let it rise: place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  6. Prepare the puff pastry: roll out and cut into squares.
  7. Fill to your heart’s content: fill each square with your chosen filling.
  8. Shape and bake: roll the squares into muffin shapes, place in a greased muffin tin, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes.

Notes

Serve warm with powdered sugar or icing. Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days.
