A bold and crispy dish featuring shrimp coated in a spicy honey garlic sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually add in the water, whisking until you create a smooth batter that lightly coats the back of a spoon.
  2. Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. You want enough oil to submerge the shrimp halfway to ensure they fry evenly and to golden perfection.
  3. Fry the Shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the batter, letting any excess drip off, then carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  4. Mix the Sauce: In a separate bowl, combine the hot sauce, honey, and minced garlic. Stir well to ensure the garlic is evenly distributed throughout the sauce, enhancing its flavor as it clings to the shrimp.
  5. Toss the Fried Shrimp: Once the shrimp are done frying, remove them from the pan and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil. Then, immediately toss them in the hot sauce mixture until they are well coated.
  6. Serve and Garnish: Serve the Firecracker Shrimp hot, garnished with a sprinkle of chopped green onions for a fresh finish.

Notes

Make sure your oil is hot enough before frying to avoid greasy shrimp. You can also double-dip the shrimp for added crunch.
