  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Fresh fruits (like berries) for compote
  • 1/4 cup sugar for compote
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice for compote
  • Crème fraîche for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  3. Stir in the sugar and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Sift in the cocoa powder and salt, folding gently until combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For the fruit compote, combine fresh fruits, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan over medium heat until softened.
  9. Serve slices of cake topped with fruit compote and a dollop of crème fraîche.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator. The cake may improve in flavor over time.
