A crispy and flavorful homemade General Tso Chicken with a sweet and spicy glaze, perfect for weeknight dinners or entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Red pepper flakes to taste

Instructions

  1. Coat the chicken in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Fry the chicken in heated vegetable oil until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Sauté garlic and ginger in the same pan for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Prepare the sauce by whisking soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil, then pour into the pan.
  5. Combine the fried chicken with the sauce, cooking together for one minute.
  6. Garnish with green onions and red pepper flakes before serving.

Notes

For extra crunch, double-fry the chicken. You can substitute chicken with tofu for a vegetarian version.
