A rich and decadent German Chocolate Cake, layered with chocolate, coconut, and pecan frosting, perfect for special occasions or everyday treats.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup German chocolate, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to your dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in melted German chocolate, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans.
  6. Evenly divide the batter between prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze wrapped slices for up to 2 months.
