A delightful mashup of classic cinnamon buns and buttery scones, these Heavenly Cinnamon Bun Scones are perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Stir well to combine everything thoroughly.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract until fully combined and smooth.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  6. Mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon for the filling in a small bowl.
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle measuring about ½ inch thick on a floured surface. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
  8. Starting from one end, roll the dough up tightly to create a log.
  9. Cut the roll into 8 equal pieces using a sharp knife. Place each piece on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and fragrant. While they bake, whisk together powdered sugar and milk for the icing until smooth. Once the scones are done, drizzle the icing over them while they’re still warm.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh from the oven with coffee or tea. Pairs beautifully with berry jam or cream cheese spread.
