Delight in these homemade Bavarian cream-filled donuts, perfectly fried and dusted with powdered sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg together.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until the batter is smooth.
  4. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or heavy pot.
  5. Drop batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the donuts and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. Whip the heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  8. Fill each donut with the freshly made Bavarian cream using a piping bag.
  9. Dust the filled donuts with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For best results, serve fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
