A comforting and nourishing Instant Pot Split Pea Soup made with vegetables and savory ham, perfect for chilly days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 oz vegetable broth
  • 2 cups split peas, dry, uncooked
  • 1/2 small onion, diced
  • 2 medium carrots, sliced
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup ham, diced, or 1 ham hock

Instructions

  1. Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode and add the olive oil. Once hot, toss in the diced onions and ham. Cook until the onions soften and the ham releases its savory juices.
  2. Turn off the sauté mode. Add the split peas, vegetable broth, sliced carrots, sliced celery, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the split peas and dissolve the salt.
  3. Seal the Instant Pot lid tightly and close the steam valve. Set it to cook on high pressure for 17 minutes.
  4. When cooking ends, allow the steam to natural release for about 5 minutes, then carefully turn the steam valve to release any remaining steam.
  5. Once</strong safe to open, stir the soup well. Garnish with cheese if desired, or adjust consistency with more broth.

Notes

For vegetarian options, omit the ham and consider adding more vegetables or plant-based protein.
