A rich and velvety chocolate cake enhanced with the magic of Guinness stout, creating a moist and delicious dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Guinness stout
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate ganache for frosting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the Guinness and unsalted butter until melted. Whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth and glossy.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Gently add the warm Guinness mixture and stir until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting with chocolate ganache if desired.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, add a pinch of espresso powder to the dry ingredients. To make gluten-free, substitute the flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
