A delightful and moist cake made with applesauce, warm spices, and a rich caramel glaze, perfect for sharing or enjoying alone.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for caramel glaze)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for caramel glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Mix the applesauce, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, and eggs in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in another bowl.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Prepare the caramel glaze with melted butter and brown sugar in a saucepan.
  7. Glaze the cake with the warm caramel glaze once it comes out of the oven.
  8. Cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

Feel free to substitute walnuts with pecans or leave them out for a nut-free version. Experiment with spices for a unique twist!
