A delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors, this Monte Cristo Breakfast Casserole features fluffy eggs, crispy deli ham, tender turkey, and melty cheese, all nestled between cubes of bread and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

  • 6 slices of bread (such as French or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese (such as Swiss or Gruyère)
  • 1/2 pound deli ham, sliced
  • 1/2 pound turkey or chicken, sliced
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter or cooking spray for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a casserole dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Cut the bread slices into bite-sized cubes and add them to the greased casserole dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and pepper in a bowl until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, then layer the sliced ham and turkey on top.
  5. Sprinkle the grated cheese atop the meats and egg mixture.
  6. Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
