A delicious breakfast casserole combining the savory goodness of ham and turkey with the richness of eggs and cheese, enveloped in fluffy bread.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of bread (white or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or cheddar)
  • 1/2 cup deli ham, sliced
  • 1/2 cup turkey or chicken, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cube the bread and layer half of it in the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Layer the ham and turkey on the bread cubes, followed by the cheese, then finish with the remaining bread cubes.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole and press down lightly.
  6. Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  7. Cool slightly before serving, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with warm maple syrup.

Notes

Use stale bread for better texture and feel free to experiment with different cheeses and meats.
