  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk 4 large egg whites in a clean bowl until foamy.
  3. Add 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar and whisk until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, whisking until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold in the orange zest, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
  6. Shape the meringue mixture onto the baking sheet using a piping bag or spoon.
  7. Bake for about 90 minutes until dry and easily lifted off the parchment.
  8. Turn off the oven and let the cookies cool inside for an additional hour.
