A comforting patty melt featuring savory beef, caramelized onions, and melted cheddar cheese on crispy rye bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef in a skillet over medium heat until browned, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  2. Remove the beef from the skillet and cook the sliced onions in the same skillet until softened.
  3. Assemble the sandwich by placing a slice of bread on the griddle, adding cheese, cooked beef, caramelized onions, and another slice of cheese. Top it with a second slice of bread.
  4. Butter the outside of the sandwich and grill until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted.

Notes

Pair with crispy fries or a salad. For a healthier twist, try using turkey or plant-based ground meat.
