Delicious and fluffy rolls bursting with zesty lemon and crunchy poppy seeds, perfect for brunch or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly.
  4. Whisk together the milk, egg, and lemon zest.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes until smooth.
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  8. Sprinkle the poppy seeds evenly over the surface.
  9. Starting from one end, roll the dough up tightly into a log.
  10. Slice the log into rounds and place them in a greased baking dish.
  11. Bake in your preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden and fragrant.
  12. While the rolls are baking, mix the powdered sugar and lemon juice for the glaze.
  13. Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the top.

Notes

For extra poppy seed crunch, sprinkle more on top before baking. Ensure butter is at room temperature for easy mixing.
