Deliciously fluffy cinnamon rolls made with sourdough starter, perfect for a cozy weekend breakfast.

  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough starter, milk, sugar, softened butter, salt, and egg until well blended.
  2. Add the flour gradually, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured countertop for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours.
  5. Roll the dough out into a rectangle, spread softened butter over it, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Roll the dough into a log starting from one long side, then cut into equal slices.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until fluffy.
  10. Spread the cream cheese frosting over the rolls once they cool slightly.

Notes

Make sure your sourdough starter is active for the best rise. For flavor variations, consider adding raisins or nuts.
