A comforting and decadent dish featuring tender fillet steak paired with buttery, crispy smashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 fillet steaks
  • 2 large potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the fillet steaks with salt and pepper, then sear each side for about 3-4 minutes for medium-rare.
  4. Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest.
  5. Smash the cooled potatoes with a fork.
  6. Heat butter in the skillet, add minced garlic, sauté until fragrant, then add the smashed potatoes and cook until crispy on the edges.
  7. Serve the fillet steak alongside the smashed potatoes, garnished with fresh herbs.

Notes

Let the steak come to room temperature before cooking for better flavor. Use a cast-iron skillet for optimal searing.
