Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 whole egg
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 ounces cheddar cheese, sliced
2 tablespoons ketchup (for the topping)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan.
Combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl.
Mix the ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
Transfer half of the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan and press it down gently.
Layer the sliced cheddar cheese over the first meat mixture.
Top with the remaining meat mixture and press gently to seal the edges.
Spread the remaining 2 tablespoons of ketchup evenly over the top.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the center reaches 160°F on an instant-read thermometer.
Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Serve with creamy mashed potatoes or a fresh garden salad.
