A comforting and hearty Bolognese sauce that brings classic Italian flavors into your home with minimal fuss.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until it’s browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Pour in the red wine, letting it simmer for a few minutes.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, followed by a sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve the Bolognese sauce over your favorite pasta, garnished with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

For a spicier kick, consider adding red pepper flakes during the sautéing step. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
