Delightfully soft and chewy sugar cookies that evoke memories of family traditions.

Ingredients

  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup salted butter, at room temperature
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375ºF (190ºC) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Scoop the dough into balls, roll them in sugar, and place them on the baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 11-13 minutes until the edges are golden.
  8. Cool for 5 minutes on the sheet before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

For soft cookies, take them out just as the edges begin to turn golden.
