Delicious Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls featuring a rich filling of cinnamon and brown sugar, topped with a creamy frosting.

  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine the Base Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the sourdough starter, milk, sugar, butter, and egg until combined.
  2. Knead to Form Dough: Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead Until Smooth: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let It Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1-2 hours.
  5. Roll and Spread: Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread with softened butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  6. Roll & Cut: Roll the dough tightly and cut into rolls.
  7. Second Rise: Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise again for 30-60 minutes.
  8. Preheat & Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Prepare Frosting: For frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Cool & Spread: Allow rolls to cool slightly, then spread with cream cheese frosting before serving.

Notes

Make sure your sourdough starter is active for best results. Experiment with different fillings if desired.
