Delightful and buttery sugar cookies perfect for Valentine’s Day, easy to decorate and share with loved ones.

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
  • Royal icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until combined.
  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined, forming a slightly sticky dough.
  5. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them on ungreased cookie sheets.
  6. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  7. Decorate each cookie with royal icing if desired, adding sprinkles or edible glitter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let the cookies cool on wire racks.

Notes

Ensure butter is at room temperature for the best texture. Cool completely before adding royal icing.
